In her own personal practice, as director of scenic and audio visual design for New Zealand based performance company the clinic, and more recently as part of the duo Shades Arcade, Julieanne has continuously devised and produced works which utilize multiple video projections, sensors and audio within the set design, in both site-specific and closed environments. Investigating the relationships between audiovisual media, its audience, and the architecture of its presentation, these interactive installations are made possible with the use of lights, electronics, video mapping, the software Isadora which has been developed especially for use in installation and performance, processing and arduino, the open-source electronics platform.
With funding support from artist residencies and organizations, Julieanne's works have been installed around the globe, including America, Spain, Germany and Italy.
Julieanne completed a double degree at Canterbury University in Fine Arts (Film) and Theatre Studies. She completed her masters degree in visual media at the University of Fine Arts (UDK) in Berlin, Germany in 2004. After living in Spain from 2005 to 2015, Julieanne has recently moved to her home town - Christchurch, New Zealand.
Workshops
Julieanne teaches workshops to students of theatre and/or arts, in new technologies and their continuing role in the development and presentation of performance & artistic works. Participants learn techniques that enable sensors, electronics, audio and video to become an informative tool in the development and performance phases of a dramatic work or installation. Workshop participants experiment with these techniques, exploring the relationship between the content and placement of technology, form & digital media and the performer/public.
